Self-description, education & work experience:
Roman Varava is a professional choreographer, performer and dancer from Ukraine (Dnipro). His work field is Experimental style based on Contemporary. Roman studied at the Dnipropetrovsk Academy of Music named after M. Glinka (specialization: Choreography), as well as took many lessons and classes from famous, skilled dancers from many countries.
Roman has a lot of experience in commercial filming, judging championships, organising master-classes, choreographing for teams, duets and solos. In Ukraine and abroad he gave classes, where he shared his creativity with people. Another important aspect of his work life was participation in commercial filming, as well as creating choreography for video works. Roman was a member of several teams that represented Ukraine at various competitions. Right now he is a member of the «Allies» team, which was formed in Berlin to represent Ukraine on the European and world stages.
Having very prolific results, Roman takes pride of his work, some examples of which are shared below:
1) Shooting for the Ukrainian production. («@mict_cultural_organization»). Goal of the project: to receive humanitarian assistance for refugees who suffered because of the war. Participated as a dancer and choreographer (Berlin, 2022).
2) Performance in Berlin «Xenakis abstrakte Ballett» in St. Elisabeth-Kirche. Participated as a dancer and choreographer (Berlin, 2022).
3) Commercial shooting «2step», artist – Ed Sheeran, directed by Henry Scholfield. Participated as a dancer and stunt double (Kyiv, 2021).
4) Championship «World Of Dance» in Spain. Participated as a dancer and choreographer (Barcelona, 2019).
Introduction to the project:
Roman is a professional choreographer, performer and dancer from Ukraine (Dnipro). In his research Varava wishes to find ways to use his body in the Experimental style and create music specifically for this style.
Description of the project:
Roman’s goal for the research is to find ways to use his body in the Experimental style and create music specifically for this style. This style is only gaining its popularity and has a very interesting peculiarity: it combines many dance styles. Roman’s main task is to study it completely, as he wants to understand how he can use his body to create unique movements.
Equally important for him is the music. He reckons that it gives him the opportunity to move and for him as a choreographer it is essential to learn how to create music specifically for the Experimental dance style. Doing that will help Roman to understand what the nature of the movement in this style is, what elements can he use and how exactly can the body movement assist in creating special and unique music for this dance style. Roman aspires to create unique, new music that every person who is interested in this dance style can then use.
